Calling ourselves holy requires sacrifice

As I read the words in 1 Nephi 20, which I have been reading over and over the past couple days, I have felt that I should break these verses up for the many messages that I hear.

I love the words of Isaiah because his words transcend every era of time. Though Lehi's group benefited from his message so do we as the Lord speaks through ISAIAH to us as well.

He says:

Listen, those of you who have been baptized
And have taken Jesus Christ's name upon you with a promise, yet you are not keeping your promise to be righteous. As you do not those things you promised, you live not in truth.

You call yourself holy, but you do not do those things that would make you holy.

I have given you the scriptures; I have prophesied and shown miracles in them, yet thou still do not believe.

1 Hearken and hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, or out of the waters of baptism, who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, yet they swear not in truth nor in righteousness. 2 Nevertheless, they call themselves of the holy city, but they do not stay themselves upon the God of Israel, who is the Lord of Hosts; yea, the Lord of Hosts is his name. 3 Behold, I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I showed them. I did show them suddenly. 4 And I did it because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;

There are many times in my life that my husband whom has not taken upon himself promises to be a witness if Christ behaves in a more righteous way than myself, yet I have promised to be righteous and I am not supposed to just be called a saint or holy; but I am supposed to be that way. I am blessed as I am reminded that I have to be a better example at all times in order that I may lead with patience showing my children and those that I deeply love how witnesses of Christ should behave.

We have great duties as members of Jesus Christs church that come along with the great blessings. We must remember our actions show how deep our faith is and how much it is that we love our God.
  1. Joseph Smith said, "A religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary [to lead] unto life and salvation." (Lectures on Faith, p. 58.)
  2. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
